5 Week Plan To An Organized Life

Are you ready to get back to a normal routine after a super, crazy, busy summer? If you take a look at the calendar, you’ll see there’s about 5 weeks until the first full week of September. If you start getting yourself organized now, by Labor Day, you’ll be ready to start the fall with new, organized goals for each part of your busy life.

Getting organized for Fall

With my 5-week plan to an organized life, you take 5 areas of your life and spend one week on each through the month of August, writing your goals for that area, and setting up a system to make it work. Then the next week, you will move on to the next. I try to do this every August and then in September, I feel re-energized and motivated to start new goals and projects.

Are you ready to get started on your new organized life? Read on for the 5 week plan.

5 WEEK PLAN TO AN ORGANIZED LIFE

  1. Week 1: Goals, Projects, and Schedule. Write down your goals for the coming year for different areas of your life. Think about special projects you would love to accomplish this year. Write everything down. Then write a weekly and daily schedule to  include time for each of your goals and projects.
  2. Week 2: Health routines. You probably know you should be eating better and exercising, right? Well, make it happen this year by putting these things into your weekly and daily schedule. Schedule time for your workouts, shopping for healthy food, and cooking healthy meals.
  3. Week 3: Finances.  Your goals and projects can’t be very well organized unless you get your finances in order to help you accomplish those goals. Look at both your long-term and short-term financial goals. Then set up a budget system to make it happen. Re-evaluate your budget each month  and also weekly, to stay on track.
  4. Week 4: Family and home. Use this time before school starts to get your kids bedrooms, wardrobes, routines, and schedules organized. Be sure to set up systems in your house for meals, laundry, and cleaning. Try to have a consistent weekly routine for everything to keep things running smooth.
  5. Week 5: Career.  As your kids are getting ready to go back to school, this is the perfect time to think about where you would like your career to be going. What changes or improvements would you like to make this year? Add them to your goals and your schedule to make it happen.
  6. Bonus Week-September: Fall Wardrobe Organizing. Ok, I know this extends the plan out for another week, but if you’ve completed the 5 week plan by Labor Day, you’re ready to do my favorite organizing project: organizing your fall wardrobe. The weather will soon be turning cooler, so get ready for it by organizing your wardrobe, which also helps you get off to a fresh start in the fall.

HOW TO MAKE THE 5 WEEK PLAN WORK

These are my best tips for making the 5 week plan a success:

  • Each week, read books on your topic that you’re working on. This gives you great ideas and motivates you to follow through on your plans.
  • Write everything down. Don’t rely on your brain to hold all your plans. Start a notebook, writing down your plans each week.
  • After writing everything in a notebook, make your plans a reality by putting them into a calendar/planner. Then, look at your planner as a list of things that MUST be accomplished.
  • Remember that your 5 areas might be different than mine. That’s ok because everyone has different lifestyles. Do what works for you.
  • Starting with week 1 on Monday, July 30, work on one topic at a time, then the next week, add to it with the next topic. By September, you should have most of your life areas organized and ready for a fresh start.

I hope you’re enjoying your summer and seeing all the possibilities for a great fall!

Till next time, have a wonderful day!
