Weekly Bathroom Cleaning 101

Today, I’m giving you my step-by-step routine for my weekly bathroom cleaning. Even though you might already know how to clean your bathroom, this will be a quick refresher course to inspire and motivate you.Who really likes to clean a bathroom? We need all the motivation we can get, right? This is a basic guide for how to clean your bathroom as quickly as possible, so you can get it done, checked off your list, and move on with your day.

Weekly Bathroom Cleaning

First, gather your supplies. Some of your supplies will depend on what types of surfaces and fixtures you have in your bathrooms, so for that reason, I won’t be too specific here. Just make sure you have the appropriate cleaning products for the types of surfaces you have. Here are the cleaning products that can be used for most bathrooms:

  • Glass cleaner
  • All-purpose cleaner spray or wipes
  • Cleaner for your specific type of sink and counter
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • Shower tile cleaner (optional, depending on the type of shower you have)
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Broom and dustpan
  • Mop and bucket

Now, it’s time to start cleaning. As I said in my previous kitchen cleaning post, set a timer and challenge yourself to finish in a certain amount of time. For some reason, this little trick motivates me, knowing that it won’t take up my whole day. Start at the top, go around the room from left to right, and finish with floors. Remember, this is a checklist for weekly cleaning. For a more detailed list for your daily, monthly, and seasonal bathroom cleaning, click here.

WEEKLY BATHROOM CLEANING

  • Remove all towels and rugs. Also, move all toiletries and nic nacs from shower, tub, and sink area.
  • Add toilet bowl cleaner to inside of toilet and let it sit for a few minutes.
  • Spray all-purpose cleaner to outside of toilet, shower, and tub. Let sit for a few minutes.
  • Spray cleaner on sink and counter. (Be sure to use the kind specific to your type of surface).
  • Dust light fixtures with dry microfiber cloth.
  • Spray mirrors with glass cleaner and wipe off.
  • Clean sink and counter. Be sure to rinse well, if needed.
  • Clean shower and tub. Rinse well. It can get slippery in there!
  • Clean shower doors with glass cleaner.
  • Swish inside of toilet with toilet brush.
  • Clean outside of toilet.
  • Sweep floor.
  • Mop floor. Be sure to use the right type of cleaner for your floor.
  • Wash drinking cups and toothbrush holders.
  • Put toiletries and nic nacs back to shower, tub, and sink area.
  • Hang fresh towels.
  • After floor is dry, put rugs back on floor.

*Always be sure to never mix ammonia with other cleaners. It causes deadly fumes.

*Always use cleaning products that are made for the type of surfaces you have. For example, granite countertops need a cleaner specifically made for granite. Also, be careful with marble countertops because they can stain if you use the wrong product. So, read labels carefully and follow directions and precautions.

*Be sure to keep cleaning products away from children. It only takes a second for them to grab, drink, or splash on their skin.

You may have other things in your bathrooms that require cleaning not mentioned above, so adjust your cleaning routine accordingly. Hopefully, if you move swiftly around the room, you should be finished in no time. Then, you can move on to the next bathroom.

There are other things to be done daily, monthly, and seasonally, so be sure to print out the complete Lifetime Bathroom Cleaning Checklist. Also, print and use the checklists for kitchens and family rooms and bedrooms.

I hope this inspires you to get your bathrooms sparkling clean! If you’ve got more tips for cleaning bathrooms, please let me know in the comments below.

Till next time, have fun cleaning!
