Pre-planning Your Spring Wardrobe

Our nice warm weather is really giving me Spring fever. Then I go into my closet and change my mind because I’m not ready to give up my winter clothes yet. Those are my favorites! Are you that way? I’ve heard lots of people say they feel that way too. When I asked them why, they said that winter clothes are more stylish, can be layered, accessorized, and just gives them more options. I agree 100%. I really wish I could enjoy spring and summer, wearing my winter clothes, but that would look pretty silly, wouldn’t it?

Preparing Your Wardrobe For Spring

Now that it’s February, we only have a little over a month to wear our winter clothes, and then it’s time to get ready for spring. So, for this month, I’m going to wear my winter wardrobe as much as possible, and then try to figure out how I can get just as excited about a spring wardrobe. Besides that, I haven’t bought any clothes since Christmas and, therefore, I’m really getting some shopping fever!

Today, I’ve got ideas for making the most of our winter wardrobe for the rest of this season. Then, I’ll help you with ideas for pre-planning your spring wardrobe. I’ll be covering this in two posts because this is one of my favorite subjects and I have a lot to talk about.

FEBRUARY WARDROBE PLAN

  • Wear our most wintery clothes. These are things that might be too warm to wear after early March. This would be things like winter sweaters, leggings, boots, winter scarves, wool coats, heavy jackets, and ponchos.
  • Wear our heaviest fabrics and darkest colors.
  • Wear our favorites as much as possible. It’s time to stop saving your favorites for a special occasion. The season is almost over and they might not even be in style next year, so wear them NOW.
  • Layer our favorite items together. For example, try layering your favorite winter sweaters, leggings, boots, winter scarf, and heavier jewelry in different combinations.
  • Feel free to wear our favorites repeatedly throughout the month of February. Just mix and match them with other favorites in your closet. Don’t worry about wearing them out. Life is short and the winter season is almost over.

The point is that winter clothes are the most versatile for some of us and, with the winter season almost over, we might as well wear them as much as possible, before it gets warm. Now, with that being said, how can we make sure that we love our spring clothes and make them just as versatile as our winter clothes? That’s my goal for my spring/summer wardrobe. The following is part one for pre-planning my ideal spring/summer wardrobe. Part two will be in the next post, so be sure to come back for that. Let’s get started!

Preparing wardrobe for spring

PRE-PLANNING SPRING WARDROBE

First, look at your winter clothes and think, what is it about your wardrobe that you like so much? How can you carry that over to the next season, feeling just as good about what you’ve got to wear? Here’s some ways to do that:

  1. Look at the styles that work well for you. Think about the styles that were like a “uniform” for you. That would be your favorite tops and bottoms. They are the styles you always feel good in. They usually fit like a glove and can be thrown on quickly, and you know they will look great.
  2. Look at the colors that work great for you. Obviously, winter and summer colors are extremely different, but you can look for colors in different shades that work for you. For instance, I love royal blue in winter, but I love aqua in summer. Everyone has colors that will look great on them, whatever the season.
  3. Winter clothes are usually heavier and better quality. Summer clothes are thinner and, for me, don’t hold up as well. In fact, a lot of summer clothes don’t even make it to the next season. That could be why I don’t have as many summer clothes. My plan for this coming spring will be to look for some better quality summer clothes. Besides, when you reach a “certain age”, better quality clothes just look more flattering.
  4. Winter shoes are stylish, but still practical. Take boots, for example. They look great but still feel comfortable. Flip flops just don’t cut it for me. So, the plan for this coming spring should be to find some cute shoes that are also practical. I know you’re out there somewhere!
  5. Winter wardrobes have lots of accessories and lots of different ways to combine them. We can do the same with spring scarves. Summer might get too hot for scarves, but I think summer is a great time for jewelry because it helps with the light, breezy clothing styles. It gives some needed pizazz to an outfit when it’s too hot to layer.

So, the point is to make the most of your winter wardrobe for the rest of this season. Then, get ready to make your spring wardrobe just as exciting! Start thinking about what a great spring wardrobe would look like for you!
