How To Plan Your Perfect Summer Wardrobe

Now that we’re in the summer months, it’s time to take a look at our closets, do some reorganizing, and plan our summer wardrobes. If you already cleaned out your closet and organized your wardrobe at the beginning of summer, you might not think you need to do this again till fall. Well, I have found that the wardrobe essentials that I needed for spring are very different from what I need for summer. So, what I do is a major wardrobe project at the beginning of spring, but then I go back in June and do a quick update.

Summer Wardrobe

Today, I’m going to share with you how I did a summer wardrobe update. It’s really very simple and easy and, unlike the spring wardrobe project, this can be done in about an hour or less. At the end, you’ll have the perfect summer capsule wardrobe for you and your lifestyle. First, you might want to read up on how I planned out my spring wardrobe, and then we’ll move on from there.

5 Steps To Your Perfect Summer Capsule Wardrobe

  1. First, look at all your events and activities for the summer. You need a wardrobe that works for your lifestyle. Then do some research for inspiration. Look through your favorite magazines, catalogs, and Pinterest for outfit ideas. Jot down what clothing items you would need for the outfits you love and would work for your lifestyle.
  2. Reorganize your closet. If you already did this in the spring, you really only need to take out things that will be too warm for summer. I keep a few lightweight cardigans for chilly evenings but other things like long sleeve tops, scarves, and heavy jackets get put in a totally different section, away from the summer clothes.
  3. If you read my post, How To Plan Your Spring Wardrobe, you saw that I like to write out my ideal capsule wardrobe for the season. It’s just a handy reference for planning my shopping trips, to see what I would like to have, what’s missing, and what to shop for. Below, I’ll show you my updated summer wardrobe plan. Remember to think of your lifestyle needs when making your wardrobe plan!
  4. With your written summer capsule wardrobe plan, look at what you have in your closet. What is missing that would get you a great wardrobe for the summer? A great wardrobe, to me, means it gives you enough clothes for all your summer events and activities. Write down all the missing pieces. Then prioritize them. What do you need the most? What do you need soon?
  5. Shop according to your budget. With only a few short months of summer to wear your wardrobe, you might want to shop for most of your list early, and then just pick up a couple lower priority items later in the summer. For example, you might need new clothes for vacation now, but new pjs could wait till July or August. Prioritize!
