Fun Summer Activities For Kids

Summer is still in full swing, but a lot of kids will soon be heading back to school. I hope it’s been a good one for your family. Summertime is what a lot of us remember most about our childhood. I still remember all the fun we had doing really silly stuff like talent shows, singing into our batons/microphones, beauty pageants, selling lemonade, building forts, playing tag, and having scavenger hunts. Face it, being a kid is a BLAST! Then, we get to have kids and share their childhood with them. Those years were great! My kids are grown now and I don’t have grandkids yet, but I’m really looking forward to it. (I still have a lot of fun with my adult kids and we still act like kids sometimes.)

Summer Activities For Kids

I hope those of you with small kids and grandkids are making the most of your summer and making great memories. If you’re needing some new ideas for summer fun with your kids, I’ve got a list of fun activities to finish up your summer. Remember that supervision is needed, especially for water, cooking, and outdoor activities.

  1. Swim lessons
  2. Library storytime
  3. Kid’s garden of flowers or vegetables

  5. Activity books and sketch books
  6. Backyard picnics and tea parties (with play dishes and finger foods)
  7. Catching fireflies in the evening
  8. Board games
  9. Go berry picking and then go home and make something with them.
  10. Backyard sprinklers
  11. Play school or dress-up.
  12. Family reading party, preferably outside on your back porch
  13. Look at stars with a telescope.
  14. Watch the sunset and draw pictures of it.
  15. Buy disposable cameras and let them take pictures of anything interesting to them.
  16. Put on a talent show – singing, dancing, magic tricks, just to name a few ideas.
  17. Movie nite – Pick old movies, buy snacks, put out sleeping bags, and stay up late.
  18. Make scrapbooks of the summer’s activities, the family vacation, or the previous school year.
  19. Scavenger hunts
  20. Buy a kid’s cookbook and make a few recipes together. (Supervision required)

I hope that gives you some ideas for the rest of the summer. Make memories with your kids and grandkids and make this your BEST summer yet! Also, check out my previous post, Family Fun On A Budget, for more ideas.

     Have a fun, summer day!
